First few days in Nepal

It's day three of our Mission Trip. We are all trying to get adjusted to the Nepali time. Thankfully these first few days we have had plenty of time to rest. One of the first things we did was take a tour of Bhaktapur. We saw lots of Hindu temples and idols. This was a great way to start our trip, as it reminded us of why we are here, to teach about the Bible and the One True God. Yesterday, Wednesday, we traveled from Lalitpur to Battar. It was a windy bumpy road over the mountains, but the views were amazing (even with lots of clouds). Today, Thursday, we were able to teach our lessons for the first time. We split up into two groups. My group had Todd, Larry, Troyal, and myself. There were 55 kids in attendance. Our lessons focused on Jesus is true God, Jesus is true Man, Jesus is our Savior, and Jesus is for everyone. After our lessons we handed out gifts and snacks. All the kids seemed excited to see us and did a great job interacting with us during our lessons. After we were done, we met up and made the drive back to Lalitpur, with a lunch stop at a restaurant with beautiful views. I am looking so forward to being able to spread His Word to even more children in the next couple weeks!

[14]How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?

[15]And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!"

Mission Helpers Arrived...

After two flights and a 6-hour layover in Istanbul, we arrived in Kathmandu at 6:00 am on Tuesday morning. After a quick trip through immigration and a long wait for luggage, we were met by Raju and Rajan at the airport. The rest of the day was spent touring the ancient Bhaktapur and Durbar Square in an attempt to stay awake, as a feeble effort to shock our systems into resetting our body clocks. After an early supper at 4:30 pm, a visit to the money exchange, and a brief devotion, hymn, and prayers, everyone was ready to sleep!

Today (Wednesday, June 25), we'll pack an overnight bag and head north to a city in Rasuwa. We're scheduled to teach about 140 children on Thursday morning and then head back to Kathmandu. We'll be in Kathmandu through Saturday. On Sunday, we'll head west where we'll spend the next couple of weeks traveling, hiking, and teaching more than 1,000 children!

The 2025 CLC Mission Helpers to Nepal are eagerly counting down the days until their departure on June 22nd. This trip will provide eight CLC volunteers with the opportunity and privilege of sharing God’s saving word with an estimated 2,000 children. 

While some of these children will be members of CLC-affiliated congregations, many will not. For many of them, this will be the first time they have heard the Good News of Jesus Christ, who died and rose from the dead for their sins.

 

The theme for our Child Evangelism Lessons is: "The Bible Was Written So That We May Believe that Jesus is Our Savior." Under this theme, the Mission Helpers will teach four lessons that reveal Jesus Christ as True God, True Man, and The Savior, highlighting that He died and rose for all.

The Mission Helpers will fly from Chicago to Istanbul, then to Kathmandu. In Nepal, they will teach in several villages. They will travel together, but will divide into two teams each day to take the Gospel to different villages in the Himalayan foothills.

Please pray that the Lord blesses the Mission Helpers with wisdom, love, compassion, patience, and safety as they proclaim the Gospel. And pray for the pastors and church leaders who have dedicated significant time and effort to prepare for this Gospel outreach opportunity.
